University of Regina alumna Carol Lafayette-Boyd is a recipient of the highest distinction the University of Regina can bestow, Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, which recognizes inspiring achievement as well as outstanding service to the community-at-large.
As a psychiatric nurse, social worker, world record-holding athlete, and community volunteer, alumna Carol LaFayette-Boyd is an inspiration to countless people in Saskatchewan and beyond. In a nursing and social work career spanning more than 30 years, she supported and helped change the lives of vulnerable people – in particular, children and families – as they faced a variety of complex challenges. A talented and decorated track and field athlete, she has won multiple World Masters Athletics Championship gold medals, set world records in her age category, and been named 2018 World Masters Athletics Athlete of the Year. In 2021, the Governor General of Canada awarded her the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers in recognition of her longstanding commitment to “celebrating, researching and preserving the history, heritage and contributions of people of African ancestry through the Saskatchewan African Canadian Heritage Museum.” #UofReginaGrads
